Lifeview is excited to announce the grand opening of The General Store at The Willows this Friday (April 11).
A shop by residents for residents, the store stocks a variety of goods at the Wheelers Hill aged care home.
Stock includes chocolate bars and confectionary, hand creams, greeting cards, biscuits, chips, water bottles, photo frames, soap, garden pots, pens, Lifeview resident recipe books and lots more.
Residents will assist with the running of the shop, including manning the cash register installed behind the counter.
“Projects such as this engage residents in a meaningful and purposeful way,” Residential Manager Nikki Kaur said.
“The store is a great opportunity for residents to purchase items they enjoy or just spend time browsing the shelves.
“Some residents may not be able to walk down to the shops anymore, as they have done their whole lives, due to various health reasons.
“However, the General Store gives them the opportunity to enjoy some shopping once again. It helps keep residents active and gives them purpose and choice.”
Susan (pictured), works in the General Store, and said the experience “brought back memories of when I worked in retail”.
She added that she was “excited” to use her skills again
Set up in the Poppy neighbourhood, the General Store hours are Tuesdays and Fridays from 3pm-4pm.
Poppy was recently converted into a unique Lifeview Home2Home dementia care space, delivering an enhanced, supportive environment for residents living with dementia.
In line with Lifeview’s industry leading Home2Home model, Poppy residents benefit from a consistent group of focused staff working in a carefully designed space, developed with dementia support front of mind.
Importantly – this space is not a “memory support unit”.
Residents living in Poppy still have full access to all communal areas of The Willows just like everyone else.
