Lifeview Emerald Glades resident Gillian cannot wait to show off her new tattoo to her grandson.
Gillian, 83, got her first tattoo last week after deciding it was something she wanted to do.
“One of my grandsons has got a tattoo, so I will go and see him and show him that grandma is just as good,” she said.
When Gillian mentioned she wanted to get a tattoo, Emerald Glades Social Support Coordinator Marc Zywaczewski sprung into action to make it happen.
Marc set up an appointment at the local Kamar-Taj Tattoo Temple in Emerald and accompanied Gillian to the visit for her new tattoo.
Lifeview alerted Channel 9 News in Melbourne, who sent a reporter along to document Gillian's story.
Gillian chose a hedgehog design on her arm, declaring “I’ve always loved hedgehogs!”
Thrilled with the result, Gillian did not rule out returning for a second tattoo in the future. “It’s crossed my mind,” she said.
The tattoo was delivered as part of Lifeview’s unique Magic Moments program, which aims to surprise residents with unique and personalised experiences.
“Aged care does not mean it’s the end of your life, it’s a chance to do things that you have never been able to do,” Lifeview CEO Samantha Jewell said.
