Victorian aged care provider Lifeview Residential Care (Lifeview) today celebrated IDAHOT Day in each of its homes and corporate office.

IDAHOT Day, International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia, is not one centralised campaign; rather it is a moment that everyone can take advantage of to take action and in Lifeview’s case, show their support for the LGBTI community.

Lifeview’s residents and staff have fully embraced the day and all it stands for by dressing in purple and rainbows, holding afternoon teas, and creating colourful artworks representing inclusiveness.

Staff and residents have also taken the step to sign individual pledges in support of the LGBTI community and placed these around the homes and offices.

“Whilst this is a fun way to recognise our commitment to inclusion and the LGBTI community we understand the seriousness of the issue, including phobias and discrimination, and the ongoing repercussions of these, especially within the aged care environment, Lifeview CEO Madeline Gall said.

“We firmly believe our homes should be inclusive for all and that everyone is able to age with grace, dignity, choice and without fear of discrimination.

“This is the main reason we have begun, and are well down the track on achieving, the Rainbow Tick accreditation.

“Lifeview has been very successful in terms of the quality of life we offer and once achieved, this accreditation will assist us to better care for elders from all walks of life - it’s all about reducing barriers.” Ms. Gall added.

Lifeview has also recently announced its intention to build a LGBTI and friends aged care living and retirement home in Melbourne’s inner city suburb of Prahran. This development will be the first inner-city offering of this type in Melbourne, and possibly Australia, by a current approved aged care provider.

These two projects combined will see Lifeview become the leading Australian aged care provider in the LGBTI space for not only residents but also staff.

Our View: To be an example of excellence by providing exceptional, inclusive service, whilst creating treasured moments.
