As an aged care provider, Dementia Action Week holds a special place in Lifeview's annual calendar.
With an estimated 446,500 Australians living with dementia and a further 1.7 million people involved in the care of someone living with dementia, almost everyone has a personal connection they could share.
Dementia Action Week provides greater visibility, public support and open conversation that aims to reduce the stigma and discrimination experienced by people impacted by dementia.
When dementia is talked about openly, it becomes easier for people to ask questions, share what they are experiencing and find the information and support they need.
At Lifeview, our commitment to dementia care doesn't begin or end with one week.
Every activity across our homes is designed to be accessible to all, offering a genuine sense of fun, engagement and community.
Our staff are trained in best-practice dementia care, ensuring every resident feels safe, supported and at home.
At Lifeview The Willows, a specialist dementia care space called Poppy offers an enhanced, supportive environment for residents living with dementia, built around Lifeview’s industry-leading Home2Home model.
Poppy residents benefit from a consistent team of dedicated staff and a carefully designed setting built specifically with dementia support in mind.
Importantly, Poppy is not a “memory support unit.” Residents living in Poppy, and any other Lifeview home, maintain full access to all communal areas of The Willows, just like everyone else.
Dementia Action Week is a reminder that the conversation is something we can all be part of.
As Dementia Australia puts it: life doesn't stop after a diagnosis, and neither does joy. The best moments often happen when we simply make the time to talk.
